OUR STORY

Over the past few decades this group of seasoned musicians have established themselves in the industry in various bands with varying genres of music from classic rock, country, R & B, blues, jazz even classical. They have come together and formed the Velvet Hammer Band, a High Energy Dance Band that covers all great music, from Rock to R&B, blues and the latest hits!

In the beginning, Chris and Lynne met and decided to start something a little different than what they had become accustomed to in so many different bands. They did not want to be stuck in one genre of music, they wanted their audience to enjoy the classic songs that they knew and the songs that they were familiar with and other bands don’t usually play. They just wanted to play songs that make you feel good!

Chris comes from a musical family, his dad being a local legend and musician in the east bay. Chris had a more classic rock kind of Santana experience that he brought to the table, Lynne studied classical voice at USC and grew up in a musical family, her uncle was one of the Ink Spots, a well-known 40’s Jazz quartet, and her mom was a vocalist and grandmother a song writer. She later studied with Dave Stroud, vocal coach to Michael Jackson, Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson and many others and found her non classical voice and took off. As their band evolved, Tony Kukulich, an exceptionally skilled funk and R & B bass player with over 30 years of experience, relocated to California from the east coast. Tony had been opening for the likes of Gladys Knight, The Temptations, The Nighthawks and The Delfonics and studied with NYC heavyweights like Jon Herington and Lincoln Gones. Tony graciously decided to join VHB and help round out the band. Tony, later decided that he wanted to play guitar instead of bass, that led the band on the search for a new bass player. Thankfully, after auditioning a few bass players, a bass player with a little different musical influence came along just in time. Progressive Rock influenced, Jerry Williams joined and fast forward to today and we just added the newest member, drummer Billy Vance.
